Dell Children’s Grace Grego Maxwell Mental Health Unit
Dell Children’s Mental Health Unit is a private inpatient psychiatric hospital that provides care for children and adolescents, ages 6-17, who are in acute crisis due to mental health concerns. Call 512-324-0029 to speak to a trained behavioral health navigator 24/7 who will assess your child or adolescent’s psychiatric needs and initiate the intake process. Once admitted, the treatment team evaluates patients and provides psychological and family support, medication as needed, and referrals to appropriate outpatient treatment programs for ongoing care. Hospitalization is short-term and aims to bring patients back to emotional safety and stability so they can return home as quickly as possible.

Dell Ascension Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas
The Dell Medical Center has a psychiatric emergency room that provides assessment and treatment 24/7 for adults in acute mental health crisis. Call 512-324-7000 to get information on the admissions and treatment process. Once admitted, the psychiatric treatment team evaluates patients and provides crisis counseling and medication to address safety concerns and other symptoms. Patients are either discharged to home or transferred to inpatient psychiatric facilities for further treatment and stabilization. The Dell Medical Center is located at 1500 Red River and is an excellent option if you are able to travel to downtown Austin.

Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES)
PES is a walk-in, urgent care clinic for adults and children having mental health crises. It does not require appointments. Services include safety plans, mental health support, medication, and referral to other appropriate programs through Integral Care, Travis County’s public mental health system. The clinic is located in the Richard E. Hopkins Behavioral Health Building at 1165 Airport Blvd and is open Mondays through Fridays from 8am to 10pm and Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays from 10am to 8pm.

24/7 Crisis Helpline by Integral Care
To receive around-the-clock mental health support by trained crisis support counselors as well as referrals to other local crisis support options to meet your specific needs, call 512-472-4357. National Suicide Prevention Lifeline
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is a national network of local crisis centers that provides free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call or text 1-800-273-8255 and visit the website for resources specific to youth, LGBTQ+, veterans, Native Americans, and more.

24/7 Crisis Text Line
If you or your adolescent, ages 13 and up, are in distress and would like to text with a trained crisis counselor, text HOME to 741741. This service is available anytime, for any mental health crisis, anywhere in the United States. Visit the website for more information on how it works.

Urgent Medication-Related Crisis

If you are under the care of a prescribing healthcare professional and are experiencing an urgent medication-related problem, call their office and request assistance. If it is after hours, contact the on-call service for your prescriber, which can often be found on the office’s outgoing voicemail or on the website.

National Alliance on Mental Illness
NAMI is a national grassroots organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

NAMI Central Texas
NAMI Central Texas is dedicated to improving the lives of all individuals affected by mental illness through education, support, and advocacy programs. It offers free education and support groups for people living with mental health conditions; family members, partners, and parents; teachers and schools; workplaces; faith communities; and communities at large.

National Education Alliance on Borderline Personality Disorder
NEABPD provides education, raises public awareness and understanding, and enhances the quality of life of those affected by Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Its website is a treasure trove of definitive information on the diagnosis for both professionals and the public.

NEABPD offers a free 12-week course, called Family Connections™, that provides education, skills training, and support for people who are in a relationship with someone who has BPD or BPD traits. Austin offers four Family Connections classes per year as well as a free monthly drop-in Support Group on the first Monday of each month. To register for an upcoming class, visit the Family Connections Registration Page. Depression & Bipolar Support Alliance
DBSA is a national organization that provides hope, help, and education to improve the lives of people with depression and bipolar disorders. DBSA offers peer-based, wellness-oriented support specifically for young adults, adults, family members, seniors, BIPOC, women, veterans, and others impacted by mood disorders. Services are available online 24/7 and in audio and video formats.


ADHD

Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
CHADD provides information on ADHD for adults, parents and caregivers, educators, and professionals. It delivers content via webinars, podcasts, parent-to-parent and teacher-to-teacher trainings and through its vast national clearinghouse for the latest evidence-based information on ADHD, The National Resource Center on ADHD (NRC).


Addiction

Smart Recovery
Self-Management And Recovery Training (SMART) is a global community of mutual-support groups. At meetings, participants help one another resolve problems with any addiction (to drugs or alcohol or to activities such as gambling or over-eating). Participants find and develop the power within themselves to change and lead fulfilling and balanced lives guided by a science-based and sensible 4-Point Program®.

Smart Recovery offers free mutual support meetings to those struggling with addiction as well as concerned family members and friends. Its website contains many informational videos, links to their latest podcast episodes, as well as instructions on how to download and use The Checkup & Choices app, their confidential, self-led online program.

In the Rooms
In The Rooms is a free online recovery tool that offers 130 weekly online meetings for those recovering from addiction and related issues. This resource is for people already in recovery, those seeking immediate help from any addiction, and for the families, friends, and allies of those people. In The Rooms embraces multiple pathways to recovery, including all 12 Step, Non-12 Step, and Wellness and Mental Health modalities.

Recovery Dharma
Recovery Dharma is a peer-led, grass-roots, democratically-structured organization whose mission is to support individuals on their path of recovery from addiction using Buddhist practices and principles. Recovery Dharma believes that recovery is about finding one's own inner wisdom and own path. It offers online meetings in all time zones and welcomes anyone who is looking to heal from addiction and addictive behavior.

Alcoholics Anonymous
Alcoholics Anonymous is an international fellowship of men and women who have drinking problems. It is nonprofessional, self-supporting, multiracial, apolitical, and available almost everywhere. There are no age or education requirements. Membership is open to anyone who wants to do something about their problem drinking. It is has been in continuous existence since 1939 and is based on the 12 Steps laid out by its founders in the Big Book “Alcoholics Anonymous.” This site contains a wealth of information on the history and philosophy of AA as well as links to regional and international AA groups where you can find updated meeting lists.

Hill Country Intergroup
Hill Country Intergroup (HCIG) provides information to the community and visitors to the Austin area about Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings, conferences, and other events of interest at the local, state, national, and international levels. It lists all meetings, both online and in-person, and operates a 24-hour hotline for questions about meetings as well as crisis support.

Austin Al-Anon and Alateen Information Center
The Austin Al-Anon/Alateen Information Center is a nonprofit community effort that serves as a local clearinghouse for information about the Al-Anon/Alateen Program in and around the Austin area. The site lists all area Al-Anon/Alateen meetings, both online and in person, as well as a link to all known Al-Anon electronic meetings.
